“For Those Left Behind” Blog Hop . . .my first completed project for the hop

Kathy (clayton528 on CropChocolate) organized the “For Those Left Behind” Blog Hop . . . for those of use that were unable to attend Crop Chocolate’s retreat “Spring Fling”. If you would like to participate, there still is time, the projects are not due until 9am MDT on Thursday, July 5. Head over to Up in the Night with Kat to get all of the details and links to the other participating blogs.

I have not fully decided which challenges (one project can be submitted to three challenges – a lifesaver for those without a lot of extra time around the Canada Day and Independence Day holidays) I will submit my card to, but I am certain it will be submitted on Scrappy Canuck Studios because I knew it would be a challenge for me to complete a card in 30 minutes. I thought I would take a break from creating to share my first completed project for this hop.

I was recently asked how I like the Cricut® Art Philosophy cartridge (only available from Close To My Heart Independent Consultants; item Z1686). Until this challenge I had only used my cartridge to cut some pillow boxes, goodie bags and butterflies for a Home Gathering. I thought this challenge and that question made it the perfect time to pull out that cartridge and try some other features and this is what I came up with:

I cut the card at 6 inches from Echo Park Paper Co. Summer Days Yellow/Purple (Item #SD14018). On the Cricut Expression I selected the Card + Shift + Bttrfly2 keys. Pressure and speed were set to medium and the blade at 4.

I cut the butterfly base at 2 inches from Echo Park Paper Co. Summer Days Red/Green (Item #SD14019). On the Cricut Expression I selected the Shift + Bttrfly2 keys. Pressure and speed were set to medium and the blade at 4.

I cut the butterfly layer at 2 inches from Echo Park Paper Co. Summer Days Scallops (Item #SD14010). On the Cricut Expression I selected the Layer + Shift + Bttrfly2 keys. Speed was set to medium and the blade at 4. I increased the pressure to high.

The purple butterflies are those that remained when the card was cut.

A scoring board was used to score on either side the each butterfly’s body. The wings were then folded up. I used a dual action glue to attach the layer to the largest butterfly and the purple butterflies to the card. I used foam tape to attach the largest butterfly. Perfect Pearls – White Opal was added to some butterfly bodies.

Like on Craft Wars once the time is up you have to stop so I did not get an opportunity to stamp a sentiment on this card. I will have to do that before sending it to someone. I also think I will add some “trails” behind the dimensional butterflies.

I hope you like my card. Until next time…

CTMH Spray Pen & Misting Technique

June 7, 2012 Comments off

I know I love the look of mists on my projects and most of my friends do too but we like to find an economical way to obtain all of the colors we like. I have tried a few of the “recipes” I found online but just could not get the color as vibrant as I wanted. Then I found a recipe using CTMH products. Here is a sample:

The beautiful sheen does not show nearly enough in the photograph but it is there (and gorgeous in my opinion). The background is a mist I made using these Close To My Heart products: Pansy Purple Exclusive Inks® Re-Inker (Z2241), Create-A-Shade™ Pearl Paint (Z1039) and Spray Pen (Z1380) [includes 3 pens, 10 ml each]. After the mist throughly dried I used the Sizzix/Tim Holtz Alterations Texture Fades December Calendar embossing folder to emboss the paper. Then I used Topiary Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pad (Z2155) to ink the raised areas.

Now I can have mists in every color without breaking the bank. Here is a video to show you how to make the mists:

If you would like to order any of the Close To My Heart products I used on this project, just click on the product name above.

If you would like to schedule a Home or Online Gathering, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Sweet Surprises

Welcome to my other blog. If you did not come from my better maintained blog, you might have missed another chance to win blog candy so go back there and follow the steps to enter. Comments are open there until noon EDT on Wednesday, May 30. Now on to my recent card…

As I mentioned earlier, I became a Close to My Heart Independent Consultant in March 2012. This is my announcement party. They have a great card kit, My Originals® Sweet Surprises, for those times that you want to give a handmade card, but are a little short on time or if you are a new card maker and need a little help getting some cards completed.

The Project Inspirations 2012 Spring/Summer Idea Book: My Originals® Sweet Surprises Card Kit video will give you an idea of what this kit contains:

I made this card with the My Originals® Sweet Surprises Card Kit. The card is very similar to what you would get if you made a card straight from the kit but I added some sparkle by adding glitter glue and some gems.

CTMH My Originals® Sweet Surprises Card Kit card

Items used:
My Originals® Sweet Surprises Card Kit (Z1731)

Bonding Memories® Glue Pen (Z553)

Stardust Glitz™ Glitter Gel (Z1313)

Clear Sparkles (Z1104)

I planned to use the Stardust Glitz™ Glitter Gel, but I could not because I forgot to order it. I substituted Ranger Crystal Stickles. I wish I had remembered my Liquid Glass (Z679) because I think that would have been a very nice addition instead of the Crystal Stickles. I’ll try to make another card using Liquid Glass later this evening and share photos mid-week; tomorrow is a busy day going to a Memorial Day parade and celebrating my niece Mollie’s 17th birthday.

On this blog post there are two chances to win blog candy. To enter for the first set of candy, leave a comment on this post (one comment per person please) by midnight EDT on Wednesday, June 6. For this prize you do not need to make any purchase and it is open to anyone in the USA or Canada. I will ship to any address in the USA or Canada that the USPS or Canada Post will deliver to. Names will be put into a hat and one winner will be drawn. The winner’s name will be posted here by 1pm EDT on Friday, June 8 (or earlier if possible).

Unfortunately my second blog candy is limited to those in the USA because the consultant Terms & Conditions I agreed to read “…CTMH Consultant has the right to sell CTMH products and recruit new Consultants anywhere in the U.S.A., but not outside the U.S.A….” Anyone that places an order (any amount) from the OpenHouse link on my Online Shopping Site by midnight EDT on Wednesday, June 6 will have their name put into a hat and one winner will be drawn. The winner’s name will be posted here by 1pm EDT on Friday, June 8 (or earlier if possible).

For those that are placing an order…if you order by midnight on May 31, the Dotty For You and May 2012 Stamp of the Month: Friendship Bouquet (S1205) promotions will still be active. I love the May 2012 stamps; I should receive mine anyday. If you order on or after June 1, the Stampaganza Time and June 2012 Stamp of the Month: Life is Tweet (S1206) promotions will be active. I cannot wait to get the June 2012 stamps.

If you find time zone conversion confusing, please see my post that contains a Time Zone “Cheat Sheet”.

Some additional fine print. The blog candy is not sponsored by any manufacturer, retail or social media outlet. I am not going to tell you what the blog candy is as I want you to be surprised. Hopefully pleasantly. 🙂
